The Buddy Program
The goal of the Buddy Program is to help promote acceptance and understanding between our special needs children and their peers, as well as to provide tools and training to that end.
Who can be a Buddy?
Students in 8th-12th grade, who are interested in working with children and young adults with special needs can join the Buddy Program. Buddy volunteers should be able to work with children of various ages and ability levels with patience and compassion. Training is provided.
What does a Buddy do?
Upon completion of the Buddy Training Program, volunteers will be given opportunities to assist with our sports programs (spring and fall soccer, winter basketball), and occasionally given opportunities to assist at community events. With all opportunities, volunteers will be asked to work one-on-one with our special needs participants and provide guidance and support throughout the activities.
Buddy Training Workshop with Lauren B. Gerber, M.P.A.
This required 1-hr workshop will get our volunteers ready to work with participants in our sports programs and community events. The workshop will be offered a few times a year.
All current workshops are full. This workshop will be offered again in the fall. Sign up here to be notified of future training workshops.
